Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative nursing care in the CVOR for adult cardiac, vascular, thoracic and transplant procedures
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists and perfusionists to maintain patient safety and optimal outcomes
• Maintain sterile field and manage instrumentation and equipment for complex cases including TAVR, TEVAR and LVAD
• Administer blood and blood products safely and follow strict infection control protocols
• Document thoroughly and accurately in EPIC to support continuity of care
• Respond to codes and emergency situations, applying advanced emergency management skills as needed
• Coach and support patients and families through the surgical process with clear, compassionate communication
• Participate in unit safety practices such as Universal Protocol (time out) and malignant hyperthermia preparedness

Qualifications

• Active RN licensure in the practicing state (must be eligible to work in Ohio)
• Minimum 3 years of OR experience (HARD STOP) with at least 2 years focused on cardiac and vascular care
• At least 1 year of CVOR experience
• Experience in a Level I Trauma facility (minimum 1 year)
• BLS required; ACLS preferred
• EPIC charting experience required
• Ability to work night 12-hour shifts and be flexible with scheduling
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong CVOR and General OR clinical skills including sterile technique and instrument handling
• Familiarity with cardiac/vascular procedures: CABG, valve surgery, TAVR, EVAR/TEVAR, aortic procedures and endovascular cases
• Experience with transplant and thoracic surgical cases
• Comfort with advanced equipment: IABP, LVAD, electrosurgical units and fiber optic light sources
• Exposure to robotic-assisted cardiothoracic surgery and Da Vinci systems is a plus
• Proven infection control practices, blood product administration and specimen handling
• Excellent teamwork, communication and critical thinking in high-acuity settings
• Proficient documentation skills in EPIC
