Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess, triage, and prioritize emergency patients quickly and accurately
- Deliver lifesaving interventions and high-acuity nursing care in fast-paced situations
- Initiate and manage resuscitation and level 1 trauma protocols when needed
- Administer medications, breathing treatments, and splinting with precision
- Operate and monitor critical equipment such as Lucas, Alaris IV pumps, iSTAT, EPOC, and GE monitors
- Document thoroughly and efficiently in EPIC to ensure continuity of care
- Collaborate with physicians, charge RNs, flow coordinators, ED techs, and unit staff to optimize patient flow
- Participate in stroke and STEMI pathways and pediatric/trauma care as required
Qualifications
- Current RN license (eligible to work in the U.S., state-specific requirements apply)
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department nursing experience
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, NIH, ENPC
- Comfortable with 4:1 patient ratios (may be 6:1 for low-acuity ESI 4 and 5)
- Experience with EPIC charting and the ED technology listed (Lucas, Level 1, Alaris, iSTAT, EPOC, GE monitors)
Knowledge & Skills
- Emergency Department nursing best practices and triage
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical records
- Trauma, stroke, and STEMI recognition and protocol workflows
- Pediatric emergency care fundamentals
- Procedures such as splinting and administering breathing treatments
- Familiarity using Lucas devices, Level 1 resuscitation carts, Alaris IV pumps, iSTAT, EPOC, and GE monitors
- Strong teamwork, communication, and patient-flow management skills
