Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate hands-on care to geriatric residents, helping with daily living activities
- Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming and mobility while preserving dignity
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and report concerns to nursing staff
- Support safe transfers and ambulation using proper body mechanics
- Help create a warm, social environment by engaging residents in conversation and activities
- Document care accurately and communicate clearly with the care team and families
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or equivalent
- State registration or licensure as required for Maryland
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) preferred or willingness to obtain
- Previous experience working with older adults or in long-term care is a plus
- Strong communication skills and a patient, empathetic attitude
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Skilled in safe resident handling and transfer techniques
- Ability to recognize and report changes in resident status promptly
- Good documentation habits and basic charting skills
- Team-oriented mindset with strong interpersonal skills
