Roles & Responsibilities
- Circulate independently in the pediatric operating room across multiple specialties — be the calm, organized leader of the room
- Provide safe perioperative care for pediatric patients, including preparation, positioning, and post-op handoff
- Administer and monitor blood and blood products in accordance with facility policies and best practices
- Apply infection control and universal protocol (time-out) procedures to ensure patient safety every case
- Assist with wound management and other specialty procedures across general surgery, ENT, orthopedics, plastics, ophthalmology and more
- Accurately document care and chart in the required electronic system to maintain high-quality records
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and the perioperative team to deliver excellent, family-centered pediatric care
Qualifications
- Active CA RN license (required)
- AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (required)
- Minimum of 2 years pediatric OR experience (as stated in job requirements)
- Ability to independently circulate in at least three of these services: General Surgery, Neurology, Orthopedics/Spine, Otolaryngology/Airway, GU, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Cardiac
- Proficiency with perioperative scrubbing (preferred)
- CNOR certification (preferred)
- Experience in a Level I trauma hospital (preferred)
- Familiarity with charting systems / electronic medical records (required)
- COVID-19 vaccine + booster per facility guideline (medical/religious exemptions allowed)
Knowledge & Skills
- Perioperative circulating techniques and OR workflow
- Pediatric surgical procedures across general, ENT, craniofacial, plastics, orthopedics and more
- Administration and monitoring of blood and blood products
- Infection prevention and control measures specific to the OR
- Universal Protocol (Time-Out) and surgical safety processes
- Wound management and post-operative care tailored to pediatric patients
- Laser and radiation safety basics, specimen handling and labeling
- Emergency management and familiarity with pediatric airway procedures
