Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and triage patients on arrival, perform timely reassessments, and prioritize care
• Administer medications and intravenous therapy safely and document responses
• Monitor critically ill patients, interpret ABGs and pulse oximetry, and manage vasoactive drips
• Perform airway management support, assist with intubated patients, and help with ventilator care and VAP bundle implementation
• Recognize and identify cardiac arrhythmias and initiate appropriate interventions
• Collect and document forensic evidence and complete mandated reporting for trauma and assault cases
• Provide clear, timely clinical documentation and thorough handoffs to ensure continuity of care
• Educate patients and families, plan safe discharges, and collaborate with the care team
• Serve as a team player and preceptor, promoting learning and a culture of safety

Qualifications

• Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license required
• AS in Nursing required; BSN preferred
• 3-5 years Emergency Department experience preferred (minimum 3 years experience expected)
• BLS required upon hire; ACLS required upon hire or obtained within 60 days; PALS to be obtained within 6 months
• TNCC, ENPC, CEN certifications preferred
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, communication, and teamwork abilities; ability to function independently in the ED

Education

• AS in Nursing (required)
• BSN (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and triage expertise
• Medication administration and IV therapy proficiency
• Intubation and airway management support skills
• Cardiac arrhythmia recognition and thrombolytic/anticoagulation therapy knowledge
• Arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation and pulse oximetry use
• Vasoactive medication management and critical care monitoring
• Clinical documentation and reporting accuracy
• Forensic evidence collection and mandated reporting procedures
• Restraint application and monitoring, and non-violent intervention approaches
• Patient/family education and discharge planning
