Roles & Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor boiler plant systems to maintain safe, efficient steam and hot water production
- Perform routine inspections, start-ups, shutdowns, and control adjustments
- Conduct preventive maintenance and basic repairs on pumps, valves, burners, and related equipment
- Keep accurate logs, records, and shift reports for compliance and operational continuity
- Follow hospital and department safety procedures and participate in safety meetings
- Coordinate with facilities, clinical staff, and vendors to address plant needs and minimize downtime
- Respond to alarms and emergencies calmly and effectively to protect patients and property
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Boiler operator certification or willingness to obtain state-required credentials preferred
- Prior experience in boiler operations, mechanical systems, or facilities maintenance is preferred
- Strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and good communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a hospital environment
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Technical/vocational training in boiler operations or HVAC systems preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Working knowledge of boiler controls, burners, feedwater systems, and pressure vessels
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulations (OSHA awareness)
- Troubleshooting skills for mechanical and control system issues
- Basic electrical and mechanical aptitude
- Proficient record keeping and the ability to follow written procedures
