Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, respectful care to geriatric residents and promote dignity
• Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding)
• Monitor residents for changes in condition and communicate observations to nursing staff
• Support mobility and safe transfers, using proper body mechanics and equipment
• Document care, vitals, and interventions accurately and timely in resident records
• Help create a calm, home-like environment and encourage resident engagement
• Follow infection control, safety protocols, and facility policies consistently

Qualifications

• Current GNA or equivalent nursing assistant certification (state-specific credential required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willing to obtain
• Successful completion of a state-approved GNA training program
• Ability to pass background checks and required health screenings (TB, immunizations)
• Compassionate attitude, strong communication skills, and dependable work ethic
• Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings is a plus but not always required

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an approved Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) training program

Knowledge & Skills

• Comfortable assisting with activities of daily living and personal care
• Knowledge of basic infection control and safety procedures
• Strong observation and reporting skills to notice changes in residents
• Good interpersonal skills for working with residents, families, and the care team
• Basic charting and documentation skills
• Ability to follow care plans and directions from licensed nursing staff
