Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to geriatric residents, focusing on dignity and comfort
- Assist with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility
- Observe and report changes in resident condition to nursing staff promptly and accurately
- Support safe transfers and use proper body mechanics to protect residents and yourself
- Help create a warm, resident-centered environment that promotes independence and well-being
- Document care and observations clearly and timely in the clinical record
Qualifications
- Valid GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) in the state of Maryland or ability to obtain prior to start
- Current basic life support (BLS) certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Comfort working with geriatric populations and assisting with ADLs
- Ability to pass background check and required health screenings/immunizations
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
- Previous long-term care or skilled nursing experience is a plus
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an approved GNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of basic geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Ability to safely assist with transfers, positioning, and mobility
- Familiarity with infection control practices and resident safety protocols
- Good observational skills and ability to report clinical changes
- Compassionate bedside manner and strong interpersonal skills
