Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care in the medical unit at Centinela State Prison
• Administer medications, treatments, and wound care accurately and safely
• Assess patient conditions, document findings, and communicate changes to the care team
• Lead and support hands-on training for colleagues during the 2-3 week day-shift orientation
• Collaborate with custody and multidisciplinary staff to ensure patient safety and continuity of care
• Maintain accurate charts and complete timely documentation while following correctional facility protocols
• Participate in shift handoffs and assist in triage and urgent care situations as needed

Qualifications

• Current, active California LVN license (required)
• Comfortable training new staff (2-3 week training commitment for day shift)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification (current or willing to obtain)
• Previous experience in medical/surgical nursing preferred; correctional experience a plus
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams
• Reliable, professional, and able to pass facility-required background checks

Education

• Completion of an accredited Vocational Nursing program and current LVN license

Knowledge & Skills

• Medication administration, infection control, and basic clinical assessment
• Charting and electronic medical record familiarity
• Wound care and basic clinical procedures common to medical units
• Ability to follow protocols and maintain patient and facility safety
• Effective communication with patients, custody staff, and clinical teams
• Time management and prioritization during busy shifts
