Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, respectful personal care to elderly residents including assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Assist with safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics and lift equipment
- Monitor residents and report changes in condition promptly to nurses and supervisors
- Document care accurately and timely in resident charts and electronic records
- Support mealtime service, feeding assistance, and observe dietary needs
- Promote resident dignity and independence through person-centered care and positive interactions
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for residents
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or equivalent (CNA) — required
- Current CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
- Ability to pass background check and required health screening/immunizations
- Comfort working nights and supporting geriatric populations with patience and empathy
- Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- GNA certification (or CNA) as required by Maryland regulations
Knowledge & Skills
- Working knowledge of ADLs (activities of daily living) and basic geriatric care
- Familiarity with infection control practices and safe patient handling
- Good charting and observation skills to accurately report resident changes
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a busy long-term care setting
- Compassionate bedside manner and strong interpersonal skills
