Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living — bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting with dignity and respect
- Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper techniques to prevent injury
- Observe and report changes in condition to the care team promptly and accurately
- Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to residents
- Help with meal assistance and feeding as needed, honoring dietary instructions
- Maintain accurate documentation of care and resident interactions
- Follow infection control and safety procedures to protect residents and staff
- Collaborate with nurses and interdisciplinary team members to deliver excellent care
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification (required)
- Completion of a state-recognized Geriatric Nursing Assistant program
- Current CPR / BLS certification preferred
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen and required immunizations/TB testing
- Comfortable with lifting/assisting residents per facility safety guidelines
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate approach to elder care
Education
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) program
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of activities of daily living (ADLs) and elder care best practices
- Familiarity with basic infection control and safety procedures
- Able to accurately observe, document and report resident status
- Basic mobility and safe transfer techniques
- Good time management and ability to prioritize resident needs
- Teamwork and collaboration with nursing and support staff
- Empathy, patience, and strong interpersonal skills
