Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide skilled pre-operative assessments and prepare patients for surgery with attention to detail and compassion
• Deliver safe, vigilant post-anesthesia care in PACU, monitoring vitals and recovery status closely
• Respond professionally to on-call notifications, including overnight patient needs and emergent situations
• Float to appropriate departments as needed, accepting patient loads or performing task-oriented duties like answering call lights and phones
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient progress accurately in the medical record
• Educate patients and families about post-op care and recovery expectations with clarity and empathy

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (appropriate state licensure required)
• Minimum of 2 years recent experience in Pre-Op and PACU settings
• American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (required)
• Comfortable with on-call responsibilities including approximately one overnight per week and occasional weekend coverage
• Willingness and ability to float to other units when clinically appropriate

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong post-anesthesia assessment and monitoring skills
• Proficiency in patient triage, recovery interventions, and rapid response recognition
• Effective communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
• Experience with medication administration and IV management in perioperative settings
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced surgical environment while maintaining patient safety
• Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate clinical documentation
