Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and manage adult and geriatric inpatients on the post-op floor and in the ICU
• Perform pre-op physical exams and participate in daily rounding with the supervising physician
• Diagnose illnesses, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and develop treatment plans
• Prescribe medications and write clear, timely orders and documentation in EPIC
• Provide suture removal and post-operative wound care
• Coordinate patient care across services to ensure smooth transitions and optimal outcomes
• Provide trauma care in a Level 1 designation setting as needed
• Manage nightly and weekend call responsibilities in accordance with the 1:3 call ratio

Qualifications

• Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) required; active PA license in Ohio or ability to obtain privileges
• Credentialing-ready file preferred (credentialing timeframe estimated at 60–90 days if clean)
• Experience with inpatient post-operative care and ICU-level management
• Comfortable working autonomously with reliable physician backup (physician available 24/7 by phone)
• Experience or comfort with trauma/Level 1 trauma protocols
• Familiarity with EPIC documentation strongly preferred
• Willingness to participate in scheduled call (10 days/month) and rotating weekend coverage

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
• NCCPA certification (PA-C) and state licensure (or ability to obtain privileges)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in inpatient assessment and ICU management
• Skilled at pre-op evaluations, post-op care, and suture removal
• Ability to diagnose, order/interpret tests, and initiate treatment plans
• Prescriptive authority and safe medication management
• Strong rounding and interdisciplinary coordination skills
• Comfort with independent decision-making and escalation to supervising physicians
• Experience documenting in EPIC and maintaining clear clinical notes
