Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, compassionate nursing care to Med-Surg patients, prioritizing patient-centered treatment
- Assess patient conditions, monitor vital signs, and respond to changes with sound clinical judgment
- Administer medications and IV therapies accurately and document all care in the electronic health record
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—physicians, therapists, and support staff—to coordinate patient care
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge plans with clarity and empathy
- Maintain unit safety standards, infection control practices, and accurate charting to support quality outcomes
- Support precepting and mentoring of newer staff when opportunities arise
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Texas
- Minimum 1 year of Med-Surg nursing experience (as stated in the job posting)
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) preferred
- Current CPR certification and proof of immunizations as required by the facility
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid knowledge of Med-Surg patient care principles and adult medical-surgical diagnoses
- Proficient medication administration and IV/infusion management
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) documentation and charting best practices
- Effective patient/family education and discharge planning skills
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and function well in a fast-paced hospital environment
- Team-focused attitude with strong interpersonal and communication skills
