Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high quality, patient-centered nursing care on the Progressive Care Unit using sound clinical judgment
- Closely monitor and interpret cardiac/telemetry data and intervene promptly when changes occur
- Administer medications and treatments safely and document care thoroughly in Meditech
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers and the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
- Maintain clear, compassionate communication with patients and families to educate and support during recovery
- Follow unit policies and uphold best practices for patient safety and infection control
- Float to other PCU areas and telemetry as needed to support unit staffing and continuity of care
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse license for Texas or compact RN privileges as applicable
- Minimum 1 year of recent PCU or telemetry nursing experience
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Experience with Meditech or similar EMR preferred
- Comfort managing a typical patient ratio of about 4 to 1
- Strong teamwork, communication and critical thinking skills
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid knowledge of progressive care and telemetry monitoring principles
- Proficiency with Meditech or comparable electronic medical records
- Skill in cardiac rhythm interpretation and ACLS interventions
- Medication administration and IV therapy competency
- Ability to prioritize, triage and respond to rapid patient changes
- Collaborative, patient-focused communication and documentation skills
