Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality respiratory care and ventilator management for adult and/or pediatric patients
- Assess, monitor, and document patient respiratory status and response to therapy
- Deliver therapies such as oxygen delivery, aerosol treatments, and airway management
- Troubleshoot ventilator alarms and adjust settings per protocol and provider orders
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
- Educate patients and families on respiratory care plans and safe home care practices
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives
Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential (required)
- Minimum 1 year of clinical respiratory therapy experience (as listed)
- Active state respiratory care license or ability to obtain licensure in Texas
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS or PALS preferred where applicable
- Strong critical thinking skills and comfort working on 12-hour night shifts
Education
- Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or completion of an accredited respiratory care program (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency with ventilator management and respiratory equipment
- Knowledge of arterial blood gas interpretation and oxygen therapy
- Airway management skills including suctioning and adjunct use
- Ability to perform emergency respiratory interventions and code response
- Clear communication and teamwork in a fast-paced acute care setting
- Accurate clinical documentation and charting practices
