Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to Med-Surg and orthopedic patients
• Assess and monitor patient condition, recognizing changes and escalating concerns promptly
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and the care team to develop and execute individualized care plans
• Educate patients and families on post-op care, mobility, pain management, and discharge instructions
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient progress clearly and timely in the EHR
• Support unit goals for quality, safety, and patient satisfaction with a positive, can-do attitude

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — Illinois license or compact privileges valid for IL at start of assignment
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• Previous Med-Surgical nursing experience; orthopedic experience preferred
• Strong teamwork, communication, and clinical judgment skills
• Ability to work nights and thrive in a fast-paced hospital environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid Med-Surg nursing fundamentals including assessment, medication administration, and post-op care
• Orthopedic patient care knowledge: mobility assistance, fracture and post-op monitoring, wound care
• Proficiency with electronic health records and clear clinical documentation
• Patient and family education skills, with emphasis on safe discharge planning
• Ability to prioritize, triage, and respond calmly in urgent situations
