Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist the registered Physical Therapist in delivering therapeutic interventions and treatment programs
• Perform routine treatment procedures safely and in accordance with the planned program
• Observe, document and report patient responses and pertinent findings to the supervising PT
• Help maintain accurate patient records and treatment area organization
• Provide direction to Physical Therapy Aides during treatment as appropriate and under supervision
• Communicate patient progress and treatment concerns to physicians in consultation with the supervising PT
• Participate in facility educational activities to keep skills current and share best practices

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved and accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
• Current certification with the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)
• Licensed by the State of Indiana in the Physical Therapy profession
• Ability to safely lift, move and transfer patients including performing minimal assist transfers (ability to lift/control up to 50 pounds)
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work under the supervision of a registered PT
• Comfort directing therapy aides and maintaining treatment area standards

Education

• Graduation from an approved and accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program

Knowledge & Skills

• Hands-on experience with patient transfers and safe lifting techniques
• Competence performing routine treatment procedures in a rehab setting
• Accurate documentation and reporting of patient conditions and progress
• Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, patients and the rehab team
• Familiarity with Medicare/private insurance documentation expectations and facility policies
• Observation skills to note and escalate clinical changes to the supervising PT
