Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert respiratory care for acute patients, including ventilator management and respiratory support
- Operate and troubleshoot a range of ventilators such as Trilogy 100, Hamilton G5/C1, PB 840/980, Phillips V60, and Vela
- Perform patient assessments, interpret ABGs, and implement effective weaning protocols
- Deliver neonatal and pediatric resuscitation when needed, following NRP and PALS guidelines
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and update individualized respiratory plans of care
- Document care accurately in Cerner and communicate changes in patient status clearly
- Respond promptly to respiratory emergencies and provide advanced airway management as required
- Serve as a reliable floater when unit needs shift, maintaining high-quality care across settings
Qualifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) via NBRC required
- Active California RCP license required
- BLS (AHA), ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and PALS required
- Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience in acute care
- Demonstrated competence with mechanical ventilation and advanced airway management
- Comfortable charting in Cerner and working as a floater across units
Education
- Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field preferred
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification required
- BS degree not required for this role
Knowledge & Skills
- Mechanical ventilation and ventilator management
- Experience with Trilogy 100, Hamilton G5, Hamilton C1, PB 840, PB 980, Phillips V60, and Vela
- Acute care respiratory protocols and weaning strategies
- Neonatal and pediatric resuscitation principles (NRP, PALS)
- ABG interpretation, oxygen therapy, and aerosolized medication delivery
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
- Proficiency with Cerner electronic charting
