Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to patients on the medical unit as a Licensed Vocational Nurse
- Administer medications and treatments accurately and per provider orders
- Perform patient assessments, take vital signs, and document findings promptly
- Collaborate with nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members to support care plans
- Maintain safety, infection control, and facility protocols in a correctional healthcare setting
- Participate in orientation and ongoing training to stay current with procedures
Qualifications
- Active California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license — required
- Comfortable and professional working in a correctional facility environment (High Desert State Prison)
- Reliable availability for the assigned Wednesday–Sunday, 5:45 AM - 2:15 PM schedule
- Strong communication, teamwork, and documentation skills
- Willingness to complete facility onboarding and required trainings
Education
- Vocational nursing diploma (LVN) or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Medication administration and safe documentation practices
- Basic patient assessment and recognition of clinical changes
- Accurate charting and record keeping
- Infection control, safety, and facility protocol adherence
- Ability to work within correctional healthcare policies and security procedures
