Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative nursing care as a scrub and circulating nurse for pediatric surgical cases, including ophthalmology
• Ensure patient safety by performing Universal Protocol time-outs and strict sterile technique
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgeons, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate efficient, high-quality care
• Accurately document care in Epic and maintain precise specimen labeling and implant tracking
• Manage instrument processing and sterilization to keep the OR running smoothly
• Assist with anesthesia induction and respond to codes or emergency situations as needed
• Support patient- and family-centered care for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents
• Mentor teammates and contribute to a positive learning environment on the unit

Qualifications

• Current CA RN license (required)
• AHA BLS and PALS certifications (required)
• Minimum 2 years pediatric OR experience, can be mixed adult/peds but must demonstrate significant pediatric skillset
• Experience scrubbing and circulating ophthalmology cases (must have)
• Previous travel assignment experience (required)
• CNOR certification preferred
• Willingness to float to other UCSF facilities as needed
• COVID-19 vaccination with booster required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative nursing: scrubbing and circulating in pediatric OR settings
• Epic charting system proficiency
• Instrument processing, sterilization, and implant documentation
• Universal Protocol (time-out) and infection control practices
• Laparoscopic and robotic surgery familiarity (Da Vinci Xi experience a plus)
• Pediatric surgical specialties knowledge including general, ortho, neuro, ophthalmology, urology, plastics
• Cardiac monitoring, electrosurgical safety, and specimen handling
• Ability to assist anesthesia during induction and participate in emergency responses
