Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting with dignity and respect
- Provide safe transfer and mobility assistance, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Monitor and record vital signs and resident condition, reporting any changes to the nursing team
- Support personalized care plans by documenting care accurately and communicating updates to nurses and families
- Create a warm, engaging environment by encouraging social interaction and participation in activities
- Maintain a clean and safe care area, following infection control and safety protocols
- Support mealtime assistance and feeding needs while respecting dietary instructions and resident preferences
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to deliver compassionate, resident-centered care
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification required (Geriatric Nursing Assistant)
- CPR/BLS certification preferred or required depending on facility
- Active state-required registrations or licensure for GNA in Maryland
- Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening as required by the facility
- Background check and drug screen clearances per facility policy
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate bedside manner
Education
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited GNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Comfortable assisting with ADLs and mobility transfers
- Basic understanding of vital signs and when to escalate concerns
- Familiarity with charting/documentation best practices
- Knowledge of infection control and PPE use
- Ability to follow care plans and adapt to individual resident needs
- Good teamwork, time management, and observational skills
- Empathy and patience when working with geriatric populations
