Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting with dignity and respect
• Provide safe transfer and mobility assistance, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
• Monitor and record vital signs and resident condition, reporting any changes to the nursing team
• Support personalized care plans by documenting care accurately and communicating updates to nurses and families
• Create a warm, engaging environment by encouraging social interaction and participation in activities
• Maintain a clean and safe care area, following infection control and safety protocols
• Support mealtime assistance and feeding needs while respecting dietary instructions and resident preferences
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to deliver compassionate, resident-centered care

Qualifications

• Current GNA certification required (Geriatric Nursing Assistant)
• CPR/BLS certification preferred or required depending on facility
• Active state-required registrations or licensure for GNA in Maryland
• Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening as required by the facility
• Background check and drug screen clearances per facility policy
• Strong communication skills and a compassionate bedside manner

Education

• High school diploma or GED
• Completion of an accredited GNA training program

Knowledge & Skills

• Comfortable assisting with ADLs and mobility transfers
• Basic understanding of vital signs and when to escalate concerns
• Familiarity with charting/documentation best practices
• Knowledge of infection control and PPE use
• Ability to follow care plans and adapt to individual resident needs
• Good teamwork, time management, and observational skills
• Empathy and patience when working with geriatric populations
