Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to residents, assisting with activities of daily living like bathing, dressing and mobility
- Monitor and report changes in resident condition to nursing staff to ensure timely interventions
- Support mealtime assistance and ensure residents are comfortable and nourished
- Document care accurately and promptly in resident records to maintain continuity of care
- Foster a positive, respectful environment by engaging residents in conversation and meaningful activities
- Follow infection control and safety protocols to protect residents and colleagues
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification; Maryland state certification preferred or obtainable
- Prior experience in long-term care, assisted living or geriatrics is a plus
- Basic life support (BLS/CPR) certification recommended
- Ability to pass background check and any required health screenings or immunizations
- Strong communication skills and a caring, patient-centered attitude
Education
- High school diploma or GED required; GNA certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in assisting with ADLs (bathing, toileting, grooming, feeding and mobility)
- Comfortable with basic resident observations and reporting changes to nursing staff
- Knowledge of infection control, safety practices and proper lifting/transfer techniques
- Ability to document care accurately and follow facility protocols
- Experience working with older adults, including those with dementia or complex care needs
