Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity progressive care nursing for oncology and telemetry patients with compassion and clinical excellence
• Continuously monitor telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias to keep patients safe
• Manage central lines, PICCs and peripheral IVs including starting and maintaining IV access
• Administer and monitor blood products according to policy and patient needs
• Care for chest tubes, tracheostomies, and non-invasive airway supports (CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC)
• Perform ABG interpretation and provide respiratory support in collaboration with respiratory therapy
• Use Rapid Response/Code teams effectively and participate in emergency interventions
• Follow infection prevention and isolation precautions to protect vulnerable oncology patients
• Provide feeding tube and port access/management with attention to safety and patient comfort
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (PT, RT, pharmacy, social services) to coordinate care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
• Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience; PCU/stepdown or ICU backgrounds do well here (oncology experience preferred but not required)
• Current BLS (BCLS), ACLS and NIHSS certifications (required/preferred per unit notes)
• Proficiency with Epic charting system
• Comfort managing high-acuity PCU patients, including central line care, blood product administration, chest tube and tracheostomy care
• Willingness to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity and work variable weekends as needed
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred but not required

Education

• Active RN license (required)
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
• High-acuity PCU / stepdown care and progressive care competencies
• Central line, PICC and peripheral IV management and IV insertion
• Blood product administration and heparin protocol familiarity
• PCA pumps, Alaris pump experience, and continuous bladder irrigation familiarity
• Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac) and tracheostomy care
• Non-invasive airway support: CPAP/BiPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
• ABG interpretation and collaboration with respiratory therapy
• Feeding tube and port access/management
• Infection prevention and isolation precautions in an oncology setting
• Phlebotomy, arterial line management, wound care/Wound VAC, and chemotherapy administration/monitoring (preferred)
