Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert Phase I PACU care to pediatric and adult patients, monitoring vital signs and recovery progress
• Manage cardiac monitoring, arterial lines, and central line care with precision and confidence
• Administer medications, IV vasopressors, PCA management, and blood products safely and according to protocol
• Recognize and manage dysrhythmias and respiratory issues, escalating care when needed
• Perform phlebotomy and IV therapy, and support ventilated patients during the immediate postoperative period
• Deliver multiple types of anesthesia recovery care including MAC, regional blocks, spinal and general anesthesia monitoring
• Apply pain assessment and management strategies, including reversal agents when indicated
• Document care accurately in the required charting system and communicate clearly with interdisciplinary teams

Qualifications

• Active California RN license (required)
• AHA BLS certification (required)
• PALS certification (required)
• Minimum 2 years PACU experience
• Minimum 5 years pediatric clinical experience
• Charting system experience (required)
• Preferred: ACLS, ASPAN, and experience in PICU, ED, or ICU and Level 1 Trauma settings
• COVID-19 vaccination and booster per facility guideline (medical/religious exemptions only)

Knowledge & Skills

• Phase I PACU workflows and post-anesthesia assessment
• Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition/management
• Arterial and central line management, IV therapy, and phlebotomy
• Care of ventilated patients and use of external ventricular drains/ICP monitoring
• Familiarity with narcotics/opioid analgesics, reversal agents, and IV vasopressors
• Comfort with conscious sedation, MAC, nerve blocks, spinal and general anesthesia recovery
• Pain assessment, PCA pump management, and use of RASS for sedation assessment
• Ability to work across surgical case types: bariatrics, ENT, general, gyn, neuro, ophthalmology, ortho, vascular
