Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate personal care to residents, assisting with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming)
- Support safe mobility and transfers while using proper body mechanics
- Observe and report changes in resident condition to nursing staff promptly
- Assist with meals and ensure residents’ dietary needs and preferences are respected
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of care provided and resident responses
- Help create a warm, home-like environment that promotes dignity and independence
- Participate in team huddles and collaborate with nurses, therapists, and support staff to deliver excellent care
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification (state-required credential) — active and in good standing
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Ability to pass background check and meet facility onboarding requirements
- Current immunizations and TB screening as required by the facility
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate, patient-first approach
- Ability to perform physical aspects of the role including lifting and assisting residents safely
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of an approved GNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and dignity-focused caregiving
- Familiarity with documentation of resident care and shift reporting
- Infection control and hand hygiene best practices
- Ability to observe, recognize, and escalate changes in resident condition
- Good interpersonal skills for working with residents, families, and the care team
