Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough pre-surgical cardiac assessments to identify risks and prepare patients for surgery
- Perform and obtain 12-lead EKGs and MRSA swabs as part of the clinic visit
- Interpret laboratory and clinical results and communicate findings clearly to surgeons and schedulers
- Deliver compassionate, clear patient teaching about procedures, recovery expectations, and post-op care
- Develop and coordinate discharge planning to ensure smooth transitions and reduce readmissions
- Document all patient interactions and clinical findings in EPIC with accuracy and timeliness
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including physical therapy, radiology, and social services
Qualifications
- WA RN License in-hand required (pending licenses are not accepted)
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required; 2 years inpatient or cardiac clinic experience preferred
- BLS certification required
- EPIC charting experience required
- Comfort working with adult and geriatric cardiac surgery patients and a typical patient ratio of ~1:5
- Reliable transportation and ability to meet local commute/relocation requirements for the assignment
Education
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN) and current WA RN license (in-hand)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of cardiology assessments and common cardiac diagnoses (CAD, AFIB, HCM, etc.)
- Ability to obtain and interpret 12-lead EKG/ECG
- Skilled at interpreting laboratory results and applying them to clinical decision-making
- Proficient in patient teaching and delivering clear pre-surgical education
- Experience with MRSA swab collection and basic infection control practices
- Solid discharge planning skills and coordination with surgery teams and schedulers
- Comfortable using EPIC for charting and clinical communication
