Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to PCU/stepdown patients, including monitoring and responding to telemetry changes
- Start and maintain IVs, manage PICC and central line care, and assist with phlebotomy and blood product administration
- Operate and monitor respiratory supports such as HFNC and CPAP/BiPAP, and provide tracheostomy and chest tube care
- Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and dysrhythmias to support timely clinical decisions
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (RT, PT, pharmacy, rapid response) to coordinate patient care and transitions
- Follow heparin, insulin, and other unit protocols, and manage cardiac/vasoactive drips per policy (no titration)
- Respond effectively as a member of rapid response/code teams and participate in unit safety and quality initiatives
- Provide compassionate wound care, feeding tube management, and pre/post hemodialysis support for adult and geriatric patients
Qualifications
- Active RN license (state of practice) — ready to work in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience; solid step-down/PCU experience is expected
- BLS and ACLS required
- Proven IV start skills and telemetry experience required
- EPIC charting experience required
- NIHSS and previous charge experience preferred
- Procedural sedation administration and advanced IV therapy/phlebotomy preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation skills
- Comfort with arterial lines, central/PICC/peripheral line care, and blood product administration
- Experience with respiratory supports: HFNC, CPAP/BiPAP, tracheostomy care, and chest tube management
- Familiarity with ABG interpretation and oxygen therapies
- Competence in heparin, insulin protocols, and managing (non-titrating) cardiac/vasoactive drips
- Excellent critical thinking, rapid response participation, and teamwork in high-acuity settings
- Solid documentation skills in EPIC and adherence to isolation/wound care protocols
