Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough speech, language, cognition, and swallowing assessments to identify patient needs
- Develop individualized treatment plans with clear, measurable goals that improve patient outcomes
- Provide skilled therapy sessions using evidence-based approaches and adaptive strategies
- Collaborate closely with nurses, physicians, PT/OT, and caregivers to ensure coordinated care
- Document patient progress accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
- Educate patients and families on strategies, home programs, and community resources for ongoing success
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to discharge planning and continuity of care
Qualifications
- Active state license in Speech-Language Pathology (required)
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in SLP (CCC-SLP) from ASHA preferred
- Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain
- Experience in inpatient or rehabilitation settings preferred, especially neuro/rehab and dysphagia
- Strong interpersonal and documentation skills, with a patient-centered approach
- Ability to pass facility credentialing and background checks
Education
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology (required) or clinical doctorate in related field
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in standardized and functional assessment of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing
- Knowledge of dysphagia management and safe swallowing strategies
- Experience with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies
- Comfortable using electronic medical records and clear clinical documentation
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate across disciplines
- Ability to adapt treatment to meet individual patient and facility needs
