Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform thorough pre-surgical assessments and clinical screenings for cardiac surgery patients
- Deliver compassionate and comprehensive patient education about procedures, recovery, and post-op life
- Obtain and interpret 12-lead EKGs and timely review of laboratory results to inform care plans
- Collect MRSA swabs and complete required pre-op testing with attention to detail
- Coordinate care and communicate effectively with surgeons, schedulers, and interdisciplinary teams
- Document care accurately and efficiently using EPIC charting systems
- Develop and implement discharge planning to ensure smooth transitions of care
- Support anxious and fragile patients with clear explanations, reassurance, and empathy
Qualifications
- Active Washington RN license in-hand required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required; 2 years inpatient or cardiac clinic experience preferred
- EPIC charting experience required
- Demonstrated ability to obtain and interpret 12-lead EKGs and laboratory results
- Strong patient teaching and communication skills, especially with pre-surgical populations
- Reliable transportation and willingness to meet local commute/relocation requirements if outside the local range
- First-time travel clinicians accepted
Education
- Active Washington Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Nursing diploma, Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) acceptable
Knowledge & Skills
- Cardiac nursing fundamentals and outpatient cardiothoracic clinic workflow
- Interpretation of laboratory results to support pre-operative decision making
- Proficiency obtaining and interpreting 12-lead EKGs
- Patient education techniques for surgical preparation and recovery expectations
- Discharge planning best practices
- Performing MRSA swabs and other pre-op screening procedures
- EPIC electronic health record documentation
- Collaborative communication with surgeons, schedulers, and interdisciplinary supports
