Roles & Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise the daily operations of the payroll department to ensure smooth, accurate processing
- Process and review payrolls for the Hospital, Medical Group, and District Commissioners in a timely manner
- Prepare and deliver payroll reporting and ensure compliance with federal and state laws
- Manage, mentor, and prioritize the workload of payroll staff to maintain high team performance
- Provide responsive payroll customer support to internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain strict confidentiality for employee payroll and sensitive information
- Collaborate with HR and finance partners to resolve payroll issues and support audits and process improvements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting, or substantial experience leading a payroll department in lieu of a degree
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and Fundamentals of Payroll Certification expected
- Experience working in a public unionized environment required
- Prior healthcare payroll experience preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and proven ability to prioritize workload
- Track record of managing staff and maintaining confidentiality in payroll operations
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting (or equivalent substantial experience leading a payroll department)

- Payroll processing and end-to-end payroll cycle knowledge
- Payroll reporting and analytics
- Payroll compliance with federal and state laws
- Payroll department management and people leadership
