Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide skilled occupational therapy interventions under the direction of an OTR to help patients improve daily living skills
- Perform individualized treatment activities focused on ADLs, mobility, cognition, and adaptive equipment training
- Document patient progress accurately and timely in the medical record
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to create and modify treatment plans
- Educate patients and families on strategies and home programs to support functional gains
- Assist with outcome measures and discharge planning to ensure continuity of care
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment and follow infection control and facility protocols
Qualifications
- Current COTA certification required
- Completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Ability to pass background checks and meet facility credentialing requirements
- Strong interpersonal skills and a patient-centered approach to care
- Prior experience in inpatient rehab or skilled nursing settings is a plus
Education
- Associate degree or diploma from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid understanding of occupational therapy principles and OTA interventions
- Skilled in ADL retraining, adaptive equipment, transfers, and mobility techniques
- Proficient documentation and clinical reasoning skills
- Effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, and care teams
- Familiarity with safety, infection control, and safety-focused care planning
- Ability to adapt activities to varied cognitive and physical abilities
