Roles & Responsibilities

• Follow hospital policies and procedures to ensure patient safety and compliance
• Properly clean, decontaminate and prepare surgical instruments for sterilization
• Operate and support sterilization processes and SPD workflows with attention to detail
• Transport soiled and sterile instruments to and from the operating room reliably and safely
• Maintain competency in sterile processing through ongoing training and quality checks
• Communicate effectively with co-workers, charge techs and supervisors to keep operations smooth
• Perform other SPD duties as assigned to support the department and patient care

Qualifications

• BLS required — must obtain within three months of hire (mandatory)
• CSPDT encouraged — pursue within 18 months of hire (strongly recommended)
• Familiarity with sterile processing practices, instrument decontamination, and SPD workflows
• Ability to follow detailed policies, prioritize tasks and work well on an overnight team
• Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with OR staff and supervisors

Knowledge & Skills

• Sterile processing and instrument sterilization techniques
• Instrument cleaning, decontamination and preparation procedures
• SPD workflows, infection control principles and hospital policies
• Safe transportation and handling of sterile and soiled instrumentation
• Maintaining competency through documentation and continuing education
• Clear communication and teamwork in a high-paced clinical environment
