Roles & Responsibilities
- Follow hospital policies and procedures to ensure patient safety and compliance
- Properly clean, decontaminate and prepare surgical instruments for sterilization
- Operate and support sterilization processes and SPD workflows with attention to detail
- Transport soiled and sterile instruments to and from the operating room reliably and safely
- Maintain competency in sterile processing through ongoing training and quality checks
- Communicate effectively with co-workers, charge techs and supervisors to keep operations smooth
- Perform other SPD duties as assigned to support the department and patient care
Qualifications
- BLS required — must obtain within three months of hire (mandatory)
- CSPDT encouraged — pursue within 18 months of hire (strongly recommended)
- Familiarity with sterile processing practices, instrument decontamination, and SPD workflows
- Ability to follow detailed policies, prioritize tasks and work well on an overnight team
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with OR staff and supervisors
Knowledge & Skills
- Sterile processing and instrument sterilization techniques
- Instrument cleaning, decontamination and preparation procedures
- SPD workflows, infection control principles and hospital policies
- Safe transportation and handling of sterile and soiled instrumentation
- Maintaining competency through documentation and continuing education
- Clear communication and teamwork in a high-paced clinical environment
