Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, person-centered care to geriatric residents, honoring dignity and individual preferences
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Monitor and record vital signs, observe for changes in condition, and promptly communicate concerns to nursing staff
- Support mobility, safe transfers, and fall prevention measures to keep residents safe
- Deliver timely, accurate documentation of care and changes in resident status
- Collaborate with nurses and the interdisciplinary team to implement care plans and promote positive outcomes
- Maintain a clean, safe environment and follow infection control and safety protocols
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification or equivalent (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) required
- Active or eligible for Maryland state certification or ability to obtain required state credentials
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Comfortable working night shifts and supporting older adult populations
- Ability to pass background checks and meet facility onboarding requirements
- Strong communication skills and a teamwork mindset
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- GNA certification or successful completion of an accredited Geriatric Nursing Assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Geriatric care principles and respectful elder communication
- Assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) and mobility support
- Basic vital signs measurement and documentation
- Dementia awareness and de-escalation techniques
- Infection control practices and safe patient handling
- Reliable documentation, time management, and teamwork
