Geriatric Nursing Assistant
Location: Bowie, Maryland
Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Night shift, 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM (overnight schedule; specific days vary based on facility needs)
Hours per Week: 40
Candidate Pay Rate: $20 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to geriatric residents to support dignity and independence
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting
- Monitor and record vital signs and resident status, reporting changes to the nursing team promptly
- Support safe transfers and mobility, using proper lifting techniques and assistive devices
- Document care accurately and maintain clear communication with nurses, families and interdisciplinary team members
- Help maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for residents
- Adhere to infection control protocols, HIPAA and facility policies to protect residents and staff
- Participate in resident care planning and team huddles to improve outcomes
Qualifications
- Active GNA certification or completion of a state-recognized Geriatric Nursing Assistant program (or eligible to obtain)
- Current CPR/BLS certification (required)
- Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening per facility policy
- Successful background check and drug screen as required
- Compassion, patience and strong communication skills with older adults
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings preferred
Education
- High school diploma or GED (required)
- Completion of an accredited Geriatric Nursing Assistant or nursing assistant training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Resident-centered care and geriatric support
- Assistance with ADLs and mobility support
- Basic vital signs measurement and observation skills
- Accurate charting and documentation practices
- Infection control and safe handling procedures
- Effective communication with residents, families and clinical teams
- Ability to follow care plans and adapt to changing needs
