Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting with dignity and respect
- Support mobility and safe transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and promptly report observations to the nursing team
- Provide compassionate companionship and engage residents in meaningful conversation and activities
- Document care accurately and timely in the resident record to keep the care team aligned
- Follow infection prevention, safety protocols and facility policies to protect residents and staff
- Collaborate with nurses and interdisciplinary team members to support individualized care plans
Qualifications
- Certified Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) or equivalent certification required
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening as required by the facility
- Comfortable assisting with personal care and transfers for older adults
- Clear background check and drug screening per facility policy
- Professional, patient-focused attitude with strong communication skills
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- GNA certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of basic geriatric care principles and safe patient handling
- Skill with ADLs, feeding assistance and toileting protocols
- Ability to take and record vital signs and recognize abnormal findings
- Strong documentation and time management skills
- Team-player mentality and effective communication with residents and staff
- Compassionate approach to dementia care and behavioral changes
