Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate personal care to geriatric residents, treating each person with dignity and respect
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Support safe transfers and mobility to reduce fall risk and promote independence
- Monitor and document resident conditions, reporting changes promptly to nursing staff
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment for residents
- Collaborate closely with nurses and the care team to deliver consistent, person-centered care
- Follow infection control procedures and facility policies to keep residents and staff safe
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification (required)
- CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Comfortable working night shifts and supporting geriatric populations
- Ability to pass background check and meet facility health/immunization requirements
- Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings is a plus but caring heart matters most
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited GNA program or equivalent training
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of activities of daily living (ADLs) and hands-on resident care
- Familiarity with basic vital signs and documentation best practices
- Understanding of infection control principles and safe patient handling
- Excellent interpersonal skills, patience, and empathy for older adults
- Ability to work collaboratively with nurses and interdisciplinary teams
- Time management and observational skills to notice subtle changes in residents
