Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to geriatric residents with dignity and respect
- Assist with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility
- Take and report vital signs, observations, and changes in resident condition promptly
- Support safe transfers and fall-prevention efforts while using proper body mechanics
- Collaborate with nursing staff to follow care plans and document resident progress
- Create a warm, friendly environment by engaging residents in conversation and activity
Qualifications
- Active Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification — required
- State certification or ability to obtain Maryland authorization as needed
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or required by facility
- Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening per facility policy
- Reliable, compassionate caregiver with experience in long-term or geriatric care preferred
- Ability to pass background checks and mandatory health screenings
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an approved GNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Comfortable with ADLs, transfers, and safe resident handling techniques
- Good observation and communication skills to report changes to nursing staff
- Team player attitude with the ability to follow care plans and facility protocols
- Time management and organization to meet scheduled resident needs
