Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living — bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting — with dignity and respect
- Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Monitor and report changes in residents’ condition to the nursing team promptly
- Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to residents and families
- Follow care plans and document care accurately and timely in facility records
- Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and facility policies at all times
- Collaborate with nurses and interdisciplinary team members to deliver person-centered care
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) or equivalent certification
- CPR/BLS certification required or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Previous experience in long-term care, assisted living, or geriatric care preferred
- Ability to pass background check, TB screening, and required health clearances
- Reliable, compassionate, and patient-focused with strong communication skills
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an approved GNA/CNA program preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of basic geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Skillful in personal care tasks and safe resident handling techniques
- Strong observational skills to notice changes and escalate appropriately
- Good verbal communication and teamwork abilities
- Time management and organization for documentation and rounding
- Respect for resident privacy, dignity, and cultural preferences
