Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist the Physical Therapist in delivering individualized treatment plans that help patients regain mobility and function
- Implement therapeutic exercises, modalities, gait training, and transfer techniques with compassion and safety
- Document patient progress accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
- Educate patients and families on home exercise programs and safe mobility strategies
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and the interdisciplinary team to support coordinated, patient-centered care
- Maintain a safe treatment environment and adhere to facility infection control and safety policies
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted PTA license for New Mexico (required)
- Completion of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification (required or able to obtain prior to start)
- Clinical experience as a PTA preferred, especially in outpatient/rehab or skilled care settings
- Ability to pass background check and meet facility onboarding requirements
- Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude
Education
- Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient with therapeutic exercise progressions and gait training
- Knowledge of transfers, safe patient handling, and assistive devices
- Skilled in clinical documentation and outcome measurement
- Ability to instruct and motivate patients and caregivers
- Good time management, clinical judgment, and interpersonal skills
