Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive primary care to the incarcerated patient population, addressing acute and chronic conditions
• Perform focused histories and physicals, develop treatment plans, and document care clearly in the medical record
• Prescribe and manage medications safely and in accordance with facility protocols
• Coordinate specialty referrals, diagnostic testing, and follow-up to ensure continuity of care
• Collaborate with nursing and support staff to manage clinic flow and improve patient outcomes
• Participate in quality improvement activities and adhere to institutional policies and clinical guidelines
• Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care while maintaining security and safety protocols within the facility

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
• Active and unrestricted California medical license (or ability to obtain prior to start)
• Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or related primary care specialty preferred
• Valid DEA registration or ability to obtain where required
• Minimum clinical experience in primary care; correctional health experience is a strong plus
• Ability to pass facility background checks and meet credentialing requirements

Education

• MD or DO required
• Board certification or eligibility in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or equivalent preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong skills in assessment, diagnosis, and management of common adult medical conditions
• Excellent documentation and electronic medical record navigation
• Familiarity with infection control, chronic disease management, and preventive care
• Effective communication and teamwork in a multidisciplinary setting
• Ability to work independently in a secure facility environment and prioritize care needs
