Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based primary care to the patient population at ISP - Ironwood State Prison
• Perform comprehensive history, physical exams, and develop individualized care plans
• Manage acute and chronic conditions, including medication reconciliation and follow-up
• Coordinate care with nursing staff, mental health providers, and specialty services
• Document thoroughly and accurately in the medical record to ensure continuity of care
• Participate in orientation and training during the initial 4-week onboarding period
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and promote a culture of safety

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree and current, unrestricted medical license in California (or ability to obtain prior to start)
• Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine preferred
• Valid DEA registration or ability to obtain DEA licensure
• BLS required; ACLS preferred or obtainable
• Experience in primary care; correctional healthcare experience is a strong plus
• Willingness to complete required background checks, immunizations, and facility onboarding

Education

• MD or DO
• Completed residency in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical judgment in outpatient primary care
• Chronic disease management (diabetes, hypertension, COPD, etc.)
• Excellent documentation and electronic medical record (EMR) skills
• Clear communication and collaborative teamwork in multidisciplinary settings
• Ability to work effectively in a correctional healthcare environment with attention to safety and security protocols
• Time management and patient prioritization in a high-volume clinical setting
