Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and diagnose psychiatric conditions for an adult correctional population with compassion and clarity
• Develop and manage individualized treatment plans, including medication management and follow-up
• Provide crisis intervention and triage when urgent behavioral health needs arise
• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams including nursing, mental health clinicians, and custody staff to ensure safe, effective care
• Document clinical encounters, treatment plans, and medication orders accurately in the medical record
• Participate in training, case reviews, and quality improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes
• Ensure compliance with facility policies, security requirements, and applicable healthcare regulations

Qualifications

• MD or DO with completion of a Psychiatry residency
• Active California medical license or eligibility to obtain a CA license prior to start
• Board certification or board eligibility in Psychiatry preferred
• Current DEA registration or ability to obtain DEA registration
• Experience working with adult psychiatric populations; correctional or forensic experience is a strong plus
• Ability to pass background check and meet facility credentialing requirements
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team

Education

• MD or DO in Psychiatry
• Residency in Psychiatry completed; board certification or eligibility preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong psychiatric assessment and diagnostic skills
• Medication management expertise, including psychopharmacology
• Crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate documentation
• Understanding of correctional mental health workflows and safety protocols
• Cultural competence and trauma-informed care practices
• Teamwork, clear communication, and professional boundary management
