Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inpatient nutrition screenings and assessments within established timeframes
- Develop and modify patient menus and care plans to meet individualized nutritional needs
- Deliver one-on-one patient and family education on therapeutic diets and nutrition topics
- Document nutrition assessments, calorie counts, teaching summaries and recommendations in the medical chart
- Provide diet in-services and training to Nutrition Services staff and help orient new team members
- Prepare and update patient education materials and diet handouts to reflect best practices
- Serve as a resource for community nutrition talks and respond to public nutrition questions
- Collaborate courteously and efficiently with physicians, nursing and other care team members
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Foods (required)
- Current Certified Dietitian status for Washington State (required)
- Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics registration or RD eligible
- Washington State Food Handlers permit (current)
- Basic Life Support Heartsaver (HS) level to be completed within 3 months of hire
- Previous dietetics experience; one year clinical dietitian experience preferred
- Experience with EPIC EMR preferred (one year preferred)
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Foods
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of foods, nutrition, therapeutic diet planning and menu modification
- Competence with nutrition screening, assessment and Nutrition Care Practice Guidelines
- Excellent patient education and communication skills across the lifespan
- Charting and documentation skills for inpatient medical records
- Critical thinking and independent problem-solving with sound clinical judgment
- Ability to teach and lead in-services and staff orientation
- Familiarity with safety, infection control, safe lifting and equipment competency
