Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor post-anesthesia patients in the ASU/PACU, prioritizing safety and comfort
- Provide skilled post-operative nursing care including pain management and vital signs monitoring
- Administer medications and manage IV therapy according to orders and protocols
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists and the multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated care
- Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition, initiating interventions as needed
- Educate patients and families about post-op recovery, discharge instructions and follow-up care
- Document patient care thoroughly and accurately in the medical record
- Participate in weekend call rotation and handoffs to ensure continuity of care
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) with ASU/PACU or Critical Care experience
- Minimum two years of experience in ASU/PACU or Critical Care units
- BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications required
- Comfortable working day shifts and participating in a weekend call rotation
- Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to manage post-operative patients
Knowledge & Skills
- Post-anesthesia and post-operative patient assessment and recovery care
- Advanced cardiac life support protocols and pediatric advanced life support
- Medication administration, IV management and pain control strategies
- Critical thinking, rapid recognition of deterioration and escalation of care
- Clear communication and teamwork in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Accurate documentation and familiarity with electronic health records
