Roles & Responsibilities
- Administer medications safely and accurately via oral, topical, vaginal, rectal routes and by inhalation, following facility policy and RN direction
- Chart all medications given, omitted, or refused with clear, timely documentation
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including personal hygiene, mobility, and mealtimes to preserve dignity and independence
- Create and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for residents under the direction of the RN
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and the care team to support person-centered care
- Report changes in resident condition promptly to nursing staff and document observations clearly
Qualifications
- Graduate of a Maine State Board-approved CNA course
- Active on the Maine CNA registry (must be current)
- Graduate of a Maine State-approved Certified Medication Administration program (CNA-M) with CNA-M course work listed on Maine CNA certification
- At least 1 year of previous CNA experience required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent customer service attitude
- Comfortable administering medications by multiple routes and performing medication charting
Education
- Graduate of a Maine State Board-approved CNA course
- Graduate of a Maine State-approved Certified Medication Administration program (CNA-M)
Knowledge & Skills
- Medication administration and medication charting/documentation
- Resident-centered patient care and activities of daily living (ADL) assistance
- Personal hygiene, mobility assistance, and mealtime support
- Clear written and verbal communication with residents, families, and the care team
- Customer service and compassionate bedside manner
- Medical terminology (preferred) to support accurate documentation and communication
