Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (typical day shift; may extend beyond scheduled hours); Rotating on-call nights and weekends with 24-hour pager coverage — call every 6th night and every 6th weekend. On-call days commonly run 10-12+ hours; weekend clinical days typically 6-8+ hours. Rotating (day with nights and weekends).

Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist with pre-operative and post-operative patient evaluation and treatment to ensure seamless perioperative care
- Serve as OR first assist during coronary artery bypass, valve surgeries, aortic reconstructions and complex procedures
- Perform and support robotic-assisted thoracic procedures (DaVinci) and VATS when indicated
- Carry and manage on-call pager duties, responding promptly to emergent bedside procedures such as chest tube or arterial line insertions
- Manage ICU and step-down units, rounding daily and coordinating inpatient care plans
- Provide walk-in/urgent clinic visits and clinic wound checks when the primary surgeon is unavailable
- Document thoroughly including discharge summaries and daily progress notes in EPIC
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, RNs and midlevel colleagues to maintain high-volume surgical throughput (6-8 cardiac cases and 9-12 thoracic cases per week)
Qualifications
- Active Nurse Practitioner licensure in Washington, or ability to obtain Washington licensure within the credentialing timeframe
- Experience as an advanced practice provider in cardiothoracic surgery or closely related surgical specialty
- OR first assist experience on CABG, valve surgery and aortic procedures
- Comfort and experience with robotic-assisted thoracic procedures preferred (majority of thoracic cases are robotic)
- Strong ICU and step-down management skills; able to handle emergent bedside procedures
- Proficiency with EPIC or similar electronic medical record systems
- Ability to complete credentialing paperwork promptly (application returned within 10 days of credentialing kickoff) and submit to credentialing processes
Education
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or completion of an accredited NP program; NP national certification and state licensure required
Knowledge & Skills
- Cardiothoracic surgical procedures including CABG, valve repair/replacement, aortic reconstruction
- Robotic-assisted thoracic surgery and VATS techniques
- Endoscopic vein harvest and radial artery harvest procedures
- ICU and step-down patient management, including ventilator and critical care workflows
- Emergent bedside procedures such as chest tube and arterial line placement
- On-call/pager management and prioritization during high-acuity situations
- Excellent perioperative assessment, documentation and discharge planning skills
- Strong teamwork, communication and pre-/post-operative coordination with surgical teams
