Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming) with dignity and respect
- Provide compassionate personal care and companionship to support emotional well-being
- Monitor and report changes in residents’ conditions to licensed nursing staff promptly
- Accurately document care, observations, and any incidents in the resident record
- Support mobility and safe transfers, following care plans and safety protocols
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to deliver person-centered care and a great resident experience
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or equivalent
- Active placement on the state Nursing Assistant registry as required by Maryland
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Able to pass required pre-employment screenings (background check, TB test, immunizations)
- Compassionate attitude, strong communication skills, and ability to work as part of a team
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of an approved GNA or nursing assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of basic geriatric care principles and resident-centered approaches
- Ability to safely assist with transfers, mobility, and use of assistive devices
- Strong observational skills for recognizing changes in resident condition
- Basic documentation skills and comfort using electronic or paper charting systems
- Good interpersonal skills for working with residents, families, and clinical teams
