Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain a sterile operating room environment to ensure patient safety
- Set up surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment so the team can focus on the procedure
- Assist surgeons and scrub teams during cases with precise, timely instrument handling
- Perform instrument counts and documentation to support accurate surgical records
- Position patients and help with safe transfers, always prioritizing dignity and comfort
- Clean, sterilize, and restock instruments between cases to keep the workflow moving
- Work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating closely with perioperative staff
- Communicate effectively with the surgical team to anticipate needs and prevent delays
Qualifications
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room Technician / OR Tech experience
- Proven ability to work with minimal direction in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Strong attention to sterile technique, instrument identification, and safety protocols
- Comfort working in a rural healthcare setting and contributing as a reliable team member
Education
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Thorough knowledge of sterile technique and perioperative infection control
- Familiarity with common surgical instruments and their proper handling
- Ability to perform accurate instrument counts and maintain documentation
- Skilled in patient positioning, draping, and maintaining the sterile field
- Strong communication and teamwork skills in the OR setting
- Ability to adapt to new procedures and equipment with minimal supervision
