Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert respiratory care and ventilator management for acute care patients
• Assess patient respiratory status, perform treatments, and adjust care based on clinical data
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and the multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
• Respond to respiratory emergencies and participate in code responses when needed
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the electronic health record (Meditech Expanse preferred)
• Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory equipment and ensure safe infection control practices
• Educate patients and families on respiratory care plans and discharge instructions
• Serve as a professional ambassador of Berkshire Medical Center, upholding policies and quality standards

Qualifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) — NBRC certification required
• Massachusetts RRT license required and must be in hand at time of submission
• Active American Heart Association BLS required
• Minimum 2 years current RRT experience (acute care/hospital experience preferred)
• Meditech Expanse experience strongly preferred
• ACLS and PALS preferred
• Must have own reliable vehicle for this assignment
• One supervisory signed reference from within the past two years required
• Travel candidates who reside within 50 miles of the facility will not be considered; permanent address must be included in profile
• CRT applicants will not be considered for this role

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong ventilator knowledge and ability to manage invasive and non-invasive support
• Proficient in arterial blood gas interpretation and respiratory assessments
• Competent with airway management, aerosol therapies, and respiratory diagnostics
• Familiarity with Meditech Expanse or similar electronic health record systems
• Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills
• Ability to prioritize and respond effectively in high-acuity situations
• Knowledge of current infection control and patient safety practices
